Champions for Children’s Holiday Store Invites Parents in Need to “Shop” for Brand New Kids’ Gifts at No Cost

686 Children and 290 Families Received FREE Holiday Gifts From the Holiday Store in 2011

December 14, 2012 – Champions for Children’s (CFC), a 501(c)3, outreaches benefit approximately 40,000 children and families throughout Tampa Bay every year.  This holiday season, CFC wants to ensure as many local children as possible have holiday gifts to unwrap.  To do this, they will provide hundreds of children in need with brand new toys and goodies, they may not otherwise receive.  As part of their annual “Holiday Store” effort, CFC staff and volunteers invite parents and caregivers to shop for toys and gifts at no cost!

In what the organization calls “Santa’s Workshop,” taking place on December 17th-19th, supporters, staff and community volunteers donate and display, in a store-like setting, brand new toys for babies and kids ages 0-12 and of all cultural diversities.  These donations include gift cards, arts and craft sets, sporting equipment and much more, so families struggling to make ends meet can be guaranteed the opportunity to witness their kids’ eyes light up as they tear into holiday gifts.

How the Community Can Be a Part of the Holiday Store:
WRAPPING SUPPLIES:  CFC is also in need of wrapping supplies including wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, gift tags and tape. Donations should bedropped-off at CFC’s main offices located at 3108 W. Azeele Street in Tampa by December 18th.

FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS:
Whether making a financial contribution or donating a gift card for a child, all donations made to the Holiday Store will directly support this event. Donations can be made at www.championsforchildrentampabay.org.

VOLUNTEER:
Holiday Store toy sorters, wrappers and shoppers are needed and a variety of shifts are still available.  This fun and rewarding experience can help anyone get into the holiday spirit!  Those interested in volunteering should reach out to jduchene@cfctb.org.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:
For a “tug at the heartstrings” story with video, audio and still photography capturing opportunities, the media is invited to attend this important holiday gift-giving event.  CFC staff, volunteers and participants can be available upon request for interview in this important local news story.  Contact Julie Robbins at julie@ideaworkscreate.com or at (813) 448-7717.

About Champions for Children:
Established in 1977, Champions for Children (CFC), formerly Child Abuse Council, has provided assistance to thousands of families throughout Hillsborough County using education, prevention techniques and treatment programs.  In 2011 alone, CFC served approximately 40,000 children and families.  CFC’s mission is to build stronger families in the Tampa Bay Region through child abuse prevention and family education programs.  They believe that establishing strong family units is vital to our community.  As Hillsborough County ranks fourth in the state of Florida for number of reported incidences of abuse and neglect, CFC is committed to providing services that help strengthen families and stop the cycle of abuse.  CFC is located at 3108 West Azeele Street in Tampa, 33609.  For more information their programs and other upcoming events, please visit their website at www.championsforchildrentampabay.org.
