Since 1977, Champions for Children builds stronger families in the Tampa Bay region through its child abuse prevention and family education programs.
Gifts to Champions for Children are tax-deductible. Contributions may be made in cash, stock, bequests, trusts, life insurance, real estate or in-kind items or services.
Through our programs, parents receive hands-on training, support and the information needed to face the many challenges and pleasures of raising healthy, happy and well adjusted children.
Sadly, Hillsborough County perpetually ranks amongst the highest in the state for the most reported and confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect. Champions for Children’s treatment programs are created in direct response to the critical needs of these children and families.
Prevention and education programs are designed to reach out to both parents at-risk for violent behavior, and parents who just need a helping hand.
Specially designed treatment programs offer abused and neglected children loving, therapeutic care while their parents receive intensive training and counseling. Education and prevention programs offer services such as home visits, workshops, support groups and developmental playgroups to engage families early on to help parents enhance their parenting skills, as well as their children’s physical, social and intellectual development.
As an accredited agency, we operate in accordance with nationally defined best practice standards and consistently strive to deliver superior services to our children and families. Each year, our highly trained and educated staff strengthens more and more families throughout the county providing valuable and measurable services that help children grow and reach their fullest potential.
When we fail as a community to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect, we all suffer. Tragically, abused children often grow up to become abusers themselves. Abused children also suffer from higher rates of death, teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, school failure, domestic violence, crime, and mental health disorders.
